Dr. Abdul Galil Shaif is a notable South Yemeni scholar, author and political advocate with a Master’s in Economics and Third World Studies, and a PhD from the University of Sheffield in political science. He authored South Yemen: Gateway to the World and is working on a forthcoming book about the struggle for power in Yemeni politics. Between 2008 and 2014, he served as Chair of the Aden Free Zone, promoting economic development and international trade in South Yemen. Currently, he is Chair of Friends of South Yemen, an advocacy group, and represents the Southern Transitional Council (STC) at the United Nations in Geneva. Throughout his career, Dr. Shaif has actively voiced South Yemen’s political aspirations, engaging in international discussions on regional peace, development and self-determination, making him a prominent figure in the region.
