Corrections Policy
Fair Observer prides itself on its fact-checking, rigorous editorial process and accuracy. If we discover an error, our team corrects it promptly. We correct all errors that come to our attention. Quality is one of Fair Observer’s biggest values.
Corrections are clearly noted at the bottom of the article along with the date of correction. We take responsibility for our mistakes and work to remedy them as quickly as possible. Readers may report potential errors by contacting submissions@fairobserver.com.
Ethics Policy
Fair Observer is committed to adhering to journalistic standards. When many other newsrooms are at the beck and call of billionaires and governments, Fair Observer maintains its independence. That independence is reflected in our ethics policies. Here are some of the ways we are dedicated to providing fair and quality journalism.
Independence
Fair Observer does not accept any form of payment in exchange for coverage. Anyone may publish with us, as long as their work is fact-based and well-reasoned. No one may pay to reserve a spot on our website, nor offer us vacations, luxuries, bribes or preferential treatment in order to influence our editorial policies.
Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers, sponsors or state actors. Private businesses do not have a seat in the Fair Observer newsroom. We uphold our journalistic integrity by remaining staunchly independent and crowdfunded. Any donations we receive are the result of individuals choosing to support Fair Observer’s mission. No donations influence our editorial policies or the publication of content.
Editorial standards
We believe an informed citizenry is essential to democratize discourse. As such, our rigorous editorial process requires that all claims must be verified through fact-checking and supported by concrete evidence. We prioritize factual integrity and transparent research. Fair Observer wants to give its readers as much context and information available about a subject transparently and fairly.
All research is clearly linked in the article by way of hyperlinks. Sources, quotes and content are given proper attribution when necessary. We strive to use independent, trustworthy sources and avoid biased evidence. Our articles go through multiple stages of editing and feedback.
In addition, all pieces are clearly labeled as the author’s own views, independent of Fair Observer. We encourage our authors to share contrasting views and engage in structured disagreement. All opinions and claims must be supported by concrete evidence.
All republished pieces give credit to the original publisher when applicable. We also give credit to the editors who contribute their time and energy to our articles. Fair Observer takes pride in its editorial work, and that pride is reflected in the transparency and quality of our content.
Diversity and intellectual pluralism
You will not find Fair Observer prioritizing one set of beliefs, values or ideologies over another. Our mission to democratize discourse is reflected in the authors and content we publish. Intellectual pluralism is the backbone of a healthy democracy. That is why we publish diplomats and intelligence officers as well as students and activists. We cast a wide net across borders, backgrounds and beliefs.
Our editorial team spans the globe — from the US and the UK to Europe and Asia — and brings in a plurality of perspectives that define us. We truly believe that local lenses can only augment global stories. That is why we encourage our diverse community to actively engage with Fair Observer and with each other, widening perspectives and democratizing discourse.
