Brendan Howe is an international theorist from Southwest England, with degrees from Oxford, the University of Kent and Trinity College Dublin. He’s been with GSIS since 2001, teaching on international relations, security, governance, human security and peacebuilding. His previous roles include visiting positions at Beijing Foreign Studies University and University Malaysia Sarawak. His research spans governance, human security, Northeast Asian security and post-conflict development, with publications like UN Governance in Cambodia and Timor-Leste (2020) and edited volumes on regional cooperation and East Asian security. Brendan is President of the Korean International Studies Association and the Asian Political and International Studies Association. He advises South Korea’s and Ireland’s foreign ministries and serves as editor for the Asian International Studies Review and a Palgrave Macmillan book series.
