Jana Kobzova

Jana Kobzova, works at the European Council on Foreign Relations, a pan-European think-tank where she covers the EU's relations with its eastern neighbours and Central Asia. Jana is originally from Slovakia and is based in London. Before joining ECFR, Jana headed the Belarus democratisation programme at the Bratislava-based Pontis Foundation between 2006 and 2009. Before that, she helped establish the Slovak branch of the European webzine ‘Café Babel'. Jana studied Russian and Central Asian studies at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at University College London and political science at the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. Her research interests include the EU’s foreign policy towards the Eastern partnership countries and Russia, Central Asia and democratization in the post-Soviet space. She is a co-author of several book chapters on Eastern Europe (most recent include ‘The Great Power (mis)Management’, 2011, and ‘Bruselenie valasiek’ [on Slovakia’s new foreign policy], 2010). She regularly publishes articles on the same topic for, among others, EU Observer, E!Sharp and Georgetown Journal of International Affairs.
