Aliyah Omar is a Somali-Canadian Journalist and an Assistant Editor at Fair Observer. She was born in the Greater Toronto Area and has lived in Edmonton, on Treaty 6 territory, for a decade. With a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Alberta, she has published articles on sociopolitical, economic and humanitarian concerns. As an avid reader, she is drawn to researching broad topics that better her writing. Her work is also informed by her experience as a first-generation child of post-colonial African lineage. Aliyah spends her time practicing traditional art and has nearly 15 years of experience as an artist.
