Topic of Discussion: The Big Fat $40 Trillion Question
On 18 August, US debt crossed $40 trillion and the debt-GDP ratio is now 125.8%.. Note that the US took 192 years to accumulate the first trillion dollars of debt, while the most recent trillion took just 5 months. In May 2024, the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives noted that interest payments have crossed spending on defense and Medicare. This figure is rising faster now. In a nutshell, American debt and interest payments are increasing at a record pace at a time when tariffs and conflicts are decreasing economic growth. We look forward to discussing this issue with you in earnest.
