Tomás Michael Carvallo is a senior intelligence analyst specializing in Latin America for Global Guardian, an international security firm based in McLean, Virginia, that provides its clients with access to a comprehensive suite of duty-of-care services. He has written on security, armed conflict and organized crime in Latin America for the Small Wars Journal, Woodrow Wilson Center and InSight Crime. His research and analysis at the Wilson Center’s Mexico Institute focused on security and economic issues in the US–Mexico relationship, as well as research on topics such as the militarization of security and rising drug use in Mexico. He also researched criminal networks for InSight Crime. His primary research interests are Mexican cartel propaganda and communication strategies, methods of intercriminal group conflict and criminal predation on the business sector.
