Dr. Sinem Sonmez is an American economist, an academic with experience in university instruction and econometric modeling. She serves as a Lecturer at Fordham University and previously taught at Barnard College/Columbia University, Baruch College and St. John’s University. In Fall 2026, she will co-teach a course on Islamic Finance at NYU Law School. She has researched the effects of government restrictions on Covid-19 and written on the Fed’s monetary policy framework. Her background bridges theoretical research in macroeconomics and microeconomics with practical economic data analysis. Sonmez holds a PhD in Economics from The New School, a Master of Arts degree in Development Economics from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from George Mason University.
