Robert Blackwill

Robert D. Blackwill is a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, focusing on US foreign policy, China, Russia, the Middle East, South Asia and geoeconomics. His recent book, Lost Decade, coauthored with Richard Fontaine, was published in June 2024. Blackwill served as deputy assistant to President George W. Bush and as US ambassador to India, receiving the Padma Bhushan Award in 2016. He previously taught at Harvard’s Kennedy School and held key diplomatic roles, including special assistant to President George H.W. Bush. His notable publications include Lee Kuan Yew and War by Other Means. He has authored several reports on US–China relations and Taiwan military contingencies.
