Mark Churchill grew up in Boston, attended Boston College, and graduated with a BA in Classical Studies in 1979. He then did his PhD in Political Philosophy. After completing the coursework for this degree, he travelled around the globe for several years. He is an avid Boston sports fan who spends much of his time reading text, between innings, quarters and periods of the home team.
