Maiken Umbach is a historian of modern Europe, with a particular interest in photography during the Nazi period and in how everyday objects, spaces and languages relate to political ideologies and imaginaries. She is professor of modern history at the University of Nottingham, and associate pro vice chancellor in the Arts Faculty.
