Charles Chasie is a distinguished leader, scholar and cultural advocate in Nagaland, a state in India’s troubled Northeast bordering Myanmar. He has provided over four decades of impactful service to Naga society. Charles was president of the Kohima Educational Society (KES) from 2005 to 2025 and served on key bodies, including the North East Zone Cultural Centre and the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board. A prolific author and editor, he has published extensively on Naga history and peace studies. Charles has also produced audiovisual works, such as Nagas in the Battle of Kohima (2020) and The Beginning of Life, a documentary on Naga origins sponsored by the Ministry of Culture. His dedication to reconciliation is reflected in his role in the film For the Sake of Tomorrow. Charles received the Media Trust Award (2007) and the Governor’s Award for Literature (2019), honoring his contributions to culture and literature.
