Major General BK Sharma is an infantry veteran with rich combat experience in hybrid warfare and counter-insurgency/counter-terrorism operations. As Director General of United Service Institution (USI), BK runs the oldest national security think tank in India, which was founded by soldier-scholar Colonel (later Major General) Sir Charles MacGregor in 1871 and planned many British imperial expeditions. Today, USI is an Indian institution that boasts more than 15,000 active members. BK commanded a mountain division on China’s border and held key positions in a much-decorated military career. He has participated in more than 100 international conferences and authored seminal papers in prestigious publications. BK visits China regularly and visited Tibet in 2018. The general has lectured at top military institutions, leading think tanks, famous literature festivals and prestigious universities. He is a graduate of Defence Services Staff college, Army Higher Command Course and National Defense College.
