Paul Chambers is an American political scientist and expert on Southeast Asian politics. He has conducted research on the Thai military’s role in government and civil–military relations. He is a lecturer at the University of Oklahoma in the United States, a visiting fellow at the ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore and was a lecturer and special advisor on international affairs at the Center of ASEAN Community Studies, Naresuan University in Thailand. He was the Director of Research at the Institute of Southeast Asian Affairs at Chiang Mai University. Chambers has authored or coedited several books, including Khaki Capital: The Political Economy of the Military in Southeast Asia (2017) and Praetorian Kingdom: A History of Military Ascendancy in Thailand (2024). Chambers holds a PhD in Political Science from Northern Illinois University.
