Dr. Harshan Kumarasingham is a New Zealand-born political and constitutional historian, serving as Reader in Politics and History at the University of Edinburgh. His scholarly work focuses on British political history, the history of the British Empire and Commonwealth, decolonization, constitutional law, and the political development of post-colonial states, especially the Indo-Pacific. Harshan is the author of many books, including A Political Legacy of the British Empire: Power and the Parliamentary System in Post-Colonial India and Sri Lanka (2013) and Liberal Ideals and the Politics of Decolonisation (2020). He is currently working on a new history of the complex ending of the British Raj.
