David McCrone is emeritus Professor of Sociology and the University of Edinburgh. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and a Fellow of the British Academy, he co-founded the university’s Institute of Governance in 1998. His books include: The Sociology of Nationalism (1998); Understanding Scotland: the sociology of a nation (2001); National Identity, Nationalism and Constitutional Change (2009); National Days: constructing and mobilising national identity (2009).
