David Hulme is the Founder-Director of Brooks World Poverty Institute (BWPI) and was appointed to the role of BWPI Executive Director in 2009. Hulme is Professor of Development Studies at the University of Manchester, the CEO of the Effective States and Inclusive Development Research Centre (ESID) and also CEO of the Brazil in Africa Research Programme. From 2000 to 2010, he was also Director of the Chronic Poverty Research Centre (CPRC). Hulme’s current interest in global poverty and global governance is an extension of his in-depth study of poverty at a micro-level, emphasizing the significance of the macro landscape and the role of major institutions in the success of poverty reduction.
