Dragan Primorac

Dragan Primorac is a former Croatian minister of science, education, and sports, serving from 2003 to 2009. He is also a pediatrician, forensic expert, and geneticist. He is the first recipient of the title “Global Penn Prof. Dragan Primorac, M.D., Ph.D. is a pediatrician, forensic expert witness, and geneticist. Professor Primorac is the first recipient of the title “Global Penn State University Ambassador”. He serves as an adjunct professor at Penn State University and the University of New Haven in the United States and as a professor at Medical Schools in Split, Rijeka, and Osijek in Croatia. He is visiting Professor at the Xi’an Jiaotong University, College of Medicine, and Forensics in China, and he was instrumental in establishing Regiomed Medical School in Bavaria, Germany. Prof. Primorac is a pioneer in the application of DNA analysis for the identification of mass graves victims. Currently, he is pioneering the application of the personalized medicine paradigm in clinical practice. He authored more than two hundred and fifty scientific papers and abstracts in clinical medicine, molecular genetics, forensic science, etc. His papers have been cited close to 5300 times (Google Scholar). Primorac received 25 domestic and international awards including The Young Investigator Award of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research in 1992, The Michael Geisman Fellowship Award of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation in 1993, The Life Time Achievement Award by the Henry C. Lee’s Institute of Forensic Science in 2002, The Award of the Italian Region Veneto for Special Achievements in Promoting Science in the EU in 2007, The University of New Haven’s International Award for Excellence in 2010, “Mary E. Cowan Outstanding Service Award,” by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences in 2019. He is an honorary citizen of five cities in and outside of Croatia. Prof. Primorac was a speaker at hundreds of conferences all around the world and he is the co-founder of the International Society of Applied Biological Sciences (ISABS). Several renowned media outlets, both electronic and print, have reported on the results of his work, such as the New York Times, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Hartford Courant, JAMA, Lancet, Science, NBC, Channel 8, Fair Observer, etc. He is the Executive Committee member of the International Consortium for Personalized Medicine (IC PerMEd) as well as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St Catherine Specialty Hospital. From 2003 to 2009 he served as Minister of Science, Education, and Sports, Republic of Croatia. According to the International Republican Institute survey of October 1, 2007, he was rated as the most successful minister in the Croatian Government with a 31% approval rate.
