An apology to Arundhati Roy and our readers.

We published an article by Mayank Singh titled “Arundhati Roy, Please Do Not Support Pakistan’s Jihad in Kashmir” on May 21, 2017. As per our editorial policy, we publish every perspective as long as it is right on the facts and reasoned in its arguments. We have published contributors who are pro- and anti-Brexit, Islamists, staunch secularists and Hindu nationalists, among others.

It has since come to our attention that the reported facts in the above-quoted article might not have come from a credible source and have been refuted by Arundhati Roy in a comment to The Wire. Therefore, we have taken this article down and apologize to Roy. We also apologize to our readers and anyone else we may have misled in the process.

Given the extent of the fake news phenomenon in the media, we remain committed to further strengthening our editorial standards and to delivering the highest quality of journalism to our readers.
