Sebastian Lüning, born in 1970, holds a doctorate in geology/palaeontology and has been working for 20 years on the reconstruction of natural ecological changes of the geological past. After research at the Universities of Wales, London, Manchester and Bremen, he took on a visiting professorship at the University of Vienna in 2005/2006. He has received several awards both for his university studies and academic research. Since 2007 he has been working as Africa expert with an oil and gas exploration company. He is a reviewer for various international geoscience journals and a member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
Fritz Vahrenholt is one of the fathers of Germany's environmental movement. He studied chemistry and started his professional career in the 1970s at Germany's Federal Environmental Protection Agency in Berlin and the Ministry for the Environment in the state of Hesse. In 1990, his party, the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD), chose him as environment senator in the city-state of Hamburg. In 1998, he became a member of the Board of Directors of Deutsche Shell AG with responsibility for renewable energy. In 2001 he founded the wind energy company REpower and is now director of RWE's renewable energy division Innogy, one of Europe's largest renewables energy companies.
Drs. Lüning and Vahrenholt have co-authored the book “Die kalte Sonne” which looks at the underestimated role of natural climate factors in current climate change.
