Marcel de Haas has a PhD from the University of Amsterdam (2004) and a MA in Soviet Studies from the University of Leiden (1987). His fields of expertise are security policy of the Netherlands, NATO, EU, Russia and the CIS, on which he is a regular commentator for Dutch and international media. He is defence and foreign policy advisor of the Dutch Reformed Political Party SGP and has been candidate in national and European parliamentary elections. He has published some 150 works. Books: Russia’s Foreign Security Policy in the 21st Century: Putin, Medvedev and Beyond (2010); Russian Security and Air Power 1992-2002 (2004); and Soviet policy towards Southern Africa (1988; in Dutch).
