Professor Tuomo Melasuo has studied contemporary history, political science and international relations.

He is specialized on the North-African and Mediterranean world since the 19th century. He has studied especially Algerian, but also other Maghrebin countries’ political, cultural and social history.

During last decades Tuomo Melasuo has been active in Euro-Mediterranean relations. He is member of the advisory councils of Anna Lind Foundation, Femise and Sihmed. He is member of EuroMeSCo and Carta Méditerranea. On more global level Professor Melasuo is the Vice-President of the MOST, Unesco, as well as representative of Finland in Unesco’s Euro-Arab Task Force.

Tuomo Melasuo has published several books, among them 'National Movements and World Peace' (1990), ‘Political evolution of Algeria from 19th century to the Liberation War in 1954’ (in Finnish, 1999), ‘The Arab-Scandinavian Dialogue’ (in Arabic 2006, original in English and French 1994) and ‘Transitions to Democracy and the Palestinians’, (together with Anitta Kynsilehto, 2007).

Today professor Melasuo continues his studies on Euro-Mediterranean relations by concentrating on socio-economic evolutions and on their importance on political and cultural relations.
