T.Besley

Timothy Besley


Kuwait Professor of Economics and Political Science at the LSE, Timothy Besley is a leading economist with interests in both economics and public policy issues.  Between 2006 and 2009, Timothy was an external member of the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee and, in 2010, served as President of the European Economic Association.  He has acted as a consultant to the European Commission, the World Bank, and Her Majesty’s Treasury.  He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2010 Birthday Honours.

Timothy is a Fellow of the British Academy and the Econometric Society and his recent books include Principled Agents: The Political Economy of Good Government, and Pillars of Prosperity, which he co-authored with Torsten Persson. 

He will be advising Fair Observer on economics and public policy issues.
