Admiral (Retd) Arun Prakash is the Chairman of the National Maritime Foundation in India and former Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy.  He is a decorated sailor and a renowned intellectual who has a profound influence on Indian strategic thinking.

The National Maritime Foundation is a non-governmental, non-political maritime think tank registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. Inaugurated on 15 February 2005 by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, the Foundation has been set up to:

• Rise above sectoral and departmental legacies, and examine issues in their entirety.

• Provide the much-needed interface between various stakeholders, like the government, public and private sector, academia, and NGOs.

• Initiate debates and discussions in an independent and unbiased milieu so that the best possible suggestions and policies emerge.
