Rising Inequality: How to Share Macroeconomic Risk?

20 October 2011
Jonathan Coppel, PhD

The presentation below raises important questions about this sharing of macroeconomic risks, and highlights possible policy implications.

Dr. Coppel presented the following presentation at the Fall 2011 annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

In developed and developing economies alike, the gap between the poorest 10 percent and the richest 10 percent of populations has risen markedly. It is vital to note whether the drivers of inequality are the same as they were three decades ago, or whether new factors are responsible for the growing divide between rich and poor.
